No, I think today is the first I heard about it, and that’s only because the European Commission is on Mastodon now.
That said, I did notice my neighbour across the street flying a European flag - but that might as well be for Eurovision.
I’m German and this is the first time I’ve heard about it.
Same. But after reading about it, it should be a thing imo.
Maybe because the 8th of May is already a remembrance day.
France: what? It’s a catholic day off. Not catholic anymore but we like holidays.
To be honest it’s just a random occurence that this year both fall on the same date.
Ascension is always on a Thursday, and 9th of May is that precise date, so most of the time they are separate days.
Luxemburger here, we get the day off. Yay!
Small shout out to !luxembourg@lemmy.world
I only knew about it when I was working in Luxembourg as it is a public holiday there.
For Belgium, most people don’t know about it.
Never heard of it in Ireland. Saw it on Mastodon today for the first time
I did learn about it (at school, maybe? Or I can’t remember), but totally forgot it until I saw buses and trams with the European and the National flags stuck to their side mirrors.
No. But that may be because I live in Australia.
It’s the day when russia launches more than usual amount of missiles, to accompany their sad little loser’s parade.
I only know it exists because I use it to remember a friend’s birthday (spain)
Just a ordinary day in Poland.
It is ascension in the Netherlands so a day off. The Friday after a lot of companies have a bridge day and stay closed. Europe day? Wut?
Yeah… it’s rare-ish. I still had not heard of Europe day.
It’s a public holiday in Guernsey, I only found out today.
