Can someone please enlighten an ignorant Brit on why people are commenting about leftists and Democrats in response to a screenshot of a somewhat lame joke about 40k?
The user who tweeted the take is a political commentator, or maybe influencer would be a better term. There’s a Wikipedia page about her that explains it better than I can.
Basically she rose to fame as an anti-feminist during Gamergate, but kinda also seems to have progressive views on some other topics which have given her a weird platform because basically no matter what side of the political spectrum they’re on there’s something for anyone to agree with her on, and something they’d want to cancel her over.
The OP in the Tweet, Sh0eOnHead (https://www.youtube.com/user/Shoe0nHead), is a Youtuber who claims to be leftist but spends half her time dismantling leftist talking points. It makes a lot of people very polarized about her.
“I’m a democrat/liberal, but…” is a tried and true method of conservative dismantling liberal talking points. Sure, as liberals we are far more openly critical of our leadership than conservatives are of theirs, and we regularly voice those concerns. But that isn’t our entire discourse, and we just as openly support liberal policy and leadership where it’s deserved. If someone’s entire schtick revolves around criticizing democrats or liberal policy without supporting good policy or people, they’re not liberal. They’re just a waste of time.
That actually makes me like her. Being critical of your own views.
Nothing more that I despise than people who choose a side of an argument just because it’s “their side”. Have a back bone. It’s okay to switch sides on certain subjects. Being an extremist is being a moron.

I dunno, that sounds pretty on par for leftist online discourse.

I agree with what you said but it doesn’t apply to Sh0eOnHead, she does spend time talking about real leftist politicians and policies
