After i joined the Fediverse, i deleted my accounts on Reddit, Twitter & Facebook a few days later. Yesterday, i deleted TikTok too and i will delete Instagram more or less soon. I hope some friends will change to the Fedi until then.

Ive had enough of all the ads and people just want fame. Make Social Media better!

I don’t usually use social media apps at all. But lemmy to me reminds of old school forums. A few people interested in a subject keep that section of the forum alive.

Yeah, it really feels like a new kind of forum.

Before I used forums to discover topics of interest, then the same thing was possible on reddit, lots of micro communities centered around a subject, no need to host your forum anymore, well now reddit showed its ugly face and lemmy seems a nice replacement

Good for you, i havent deleted shit, but don’t visit them often, changed my habits, dont regret it.

E-pen used to be a joke to measur you eletronic-penis and people would joke about it being you ego and used to measure the shit you did online, now e-pen seems to be real where people measure the number of followers to evaluate a person’s worth, we are going in the wrong direction…

Yeah… todays social media is more a commercial ad platform than social media.

the fediverse is the new ‘futuristic’ social media since its main goal is to connect people and make social media more social

Depending on how you define social media this sort of platform like Lemmy/Mbin/Sublinks/etc. is still social media. We’re still interacting with each other, aka “socialising”. It’s just that the focus is less on whom you talk with and more on what you talk about.

YMMV though. I get your point - I don’t want Facebook/Orkut tier shit either.

You’ll only be one of us once you go through the no-poop challenge! Before that you’re still a redditor.

I’m joking. Welcome! Things are rough but improving; nothing is perfect here, a lot of things suck major balls, but it’s getting better. In the meantime Reddit, Xitter /ʃɪt.ə/ and Faecesbook are all going downhill. Long term you’ll feel glad for migrating.

The original poster was @mizu6079@lemmy.world who seems to have deleted his account and the original post. It was archived in various places though, sadly without the original comments (which had some back and forth with the OP that only increased the mystery). It was the top upvoted post on Lemmy as a whole for a while. Here is a link to an archived version of just the OP:

I’ve been on Lemmy for a few months now and am really enjoying it. I think I’ll stay.

I’ve also been thinking about starting a Pixelfed account so I can share some photos I’ve taken recently. In my poking around the last few days, my first impression is that the bones are there, but it’s still rough around the edges. For example, clicking a hashtag in a photo caption to browse all photos with that hashtag is currently broken on the largest Pixelfed instance, and even on the smaller instances, browsing hashtags doesn’t appear to be federated, so there’s basically no way to discover photos of a certain hashtag or for others to discover my photos unless we are on the same instance, which seems to kind of defeat the purpose of moving to a federated service. Not that hash tags are the most important thing, but kind of a bummer from a discoverability standpoint. I may bite the bullet and sign up anyway, we’ll see.

If you weren’t already aware, the fediverse has equivalents to all of those except tiktok. Could help fill that void.
