For those who don’t want to follow the existing 196 community move, some community members have made an alternative community on blahaj.zone

I am not directly involved in the new community, but I’m happy to share it for those looking for a blahaj based alternative.

Is there a reason we can’t just add a new mod team to the old 196?

I suppose that may feel a little “takeover”y by its them that decided to move.

I’d really like to see the mod team removed since they unilaterally took over the community

Agreed. It’s what would be best for us. Not moving to another community with a horrendous name, but staying here while they are removed and move on to lemmy.world.

    • Yeah entirely agree. I don’t get why the current mods can’t simply be removed since they don’t intend to maintain the sub? Sublemmys can’t really move, you can just create a new one elsewhere as everyone is welcome to do, but by definition it can’t be the “same community”

Thank You! I found it absolutely hilarious that their ‘complaints’ were that you dared to enforce site-wide rules on their magazine/community. Thank you for all that you do.

Aww, thanks! I’m kinda regretting not naming it oneninesix, but here we are. I guess I love letters.

Edit: I relocated my elevator speech to here: https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/post/20973851

If you’re interested in modding or want to provide some feedback/suggestions/anything, PLEASE hop over and let me know in the comments or by PM.

I very much don’t want to get involved in day to day moderating of the community, but I do watch over all reports that come through for blahaj communities, and I will deal with the spammers/bigots etc as well.

I would definitely prefer oneninesix. I don’t know how many people type their URLs manually, but I do, and onehundredninetysix is just a tad too long. If you switch, I will follow.

It’s only been a few hours, I’m sure we’d follow if you made a new community under that name.

    Whoop whoop, subscribed.

Also, on a personal note, having a bit more insight in to what was going on behind the scenes, I just wanted to thank you for the extra moderating you were doing over on 196, which their mod team has been open about undoing. Definitely feel safer in your hands than I do in theirs (though really hope for your sake you won’t have to step in as much anymore).

Can you change the display name to something like “196 (archive)” so it’s easier to distinguish them?

I think we should just keep the original !196@lemmy.blahaj.zone and pass control of this one on to the mods of the other one. If the existing mod team wants to leave that’s their choice but we shouldn’t end up losing this great community just because they want to migrate. This is our community.

Despite using Lemmy for a while now. What’s the significance of this, and does it stop people from being able to interact with it?

Sorry, I really don’t know too much about this stuff.

Every “instance” of Lemmy is like an island. Every island has it’s own population. It has it’s own admin team with their own culture and ideals. It’s one of the strengths of Lemmy. Don’t like reddit’s admins? Deal with it or leave. Don’t like lemmy.ml’s? Okay just go to lemmy.world or thelemmy.club or any other instance. They’re all connected (unless they decide they don’t want to be… but for the most part they are connected), and you can comment and like and post to communities on other instances.

196 was originally on lemmy.blahaj.zone, but they seemingly have some kind of issue with the admin team there, apparently banning some users in a way that they disagreed with. So they decide to move to lemmy.world. But they never told the users or asked so everyone is kinda mad about that. Not everyone likes lemmy.world, especially since blahaj is known for being super-trans freindly and so is 196.

It looks like they decided to not move after all the drama though so…

I don’t really understand what 196 is all about (other than that one rule) but it feels too late to ask.

    No way, Fediverse drama

I’m a bit out of the loop, can anyone explain what @moss@lemmy.blahaj.zone meant by “moderatorial and ideologial differences”?
