It’s not about the ‘that’. It’s about the ‘when’, ‘where’, ‘to whom’ and ‘by whose mistake’.

And don’t forget with what genitals, because that will define who you’re allowed to be, who you’re allowed to love, how much you’ll get paid, how you’re allowed to dress, and what freedoms you’ll have, depending on the where and when.

why does the state need to know and if it so wants to know, why do I have to show it, why can’t it do it’s own research if it’s such a know-it-all

For instance: I recently needed my birth certificate to prove that I’m my mother’s heir. The state doesn’t care about that. Other, private institutions, like banks, care. And they don’t have access to the municipal records (rightfully so!)

I was born in a country where birth certificates don’t exist so I’ve never had one and life’s been just fine without it.

“What if someone tried to like…dress up a burrito!?”

…this has literally never happened in the history of babies-

    “WE NEED CERTIFICATES.”

Birth certificates are not a method of verifying that you were born, they are a method of recording the other relevant details like who your parents are, when and where you were born, under what citizenship, etc. Those things are kinda important for establishing your eligibility for legal rights.

Also that a child has been born, and will therefore need welfare verification at various milestones such as school registration, health registration etc.

See I don’t actually remember being born and I’m not going to take the government’s word for what happened. I think that I simply grew in the ground as a mutant potato and was unearthed at around my supposed birthday. It would explain my natural affinity for lying around.
