Been using it for 1-2 months ig, and its honestly, become a part of my warframe experience, its just that good. But i formatted my pc day before yesterday and yesterday i downloaded warframe and alecaframe again, and there you go, i got suspended. I filed for a ban lift request and got the ban lift, and also reported the ban to overwolf(alecaframe). They literally said they are working closely with the game developers and that alecaframe will not get me banned. So i used it again and there you go again, banned again. I got the 2nd ban lift but still, is it not okay to use alecaframe now? Or is it just my account now? For those thinking “oh you must have something else in your pc then”. Nah, formatted it, it just has a browser, and warframe

You might want to do some serious malware/antivirus checks because Overwolf (and by proxy Alecaframe) got hit with some nasty self-propagating stuff recently. And that might be be whats doing whatever thats setting off the ban flag when you run it.

It’s way past time for DE to make that information (inventory, account statistics) available to us directly.

They can just dump a json file where EE.log is when we log in.

If Warframe had anywhere near as much API access available to third party apps and websites as Destiny 2 does, it would be a far better game for it.

It’s relatively trivial to access the actual API, the way the game and app do… It’s just not hardened in any way and gets you banned the instant they notice.

tru, they should just hire alecaframe people at this point in my opinion

That might be an improvement, but the community and third party app creators (myself included) have really wanted this data to be available to make better tools for users.

Warframe gets it all when you log in, it just needs to dump it to a json file when it gets it.

They literally said they are working closely with the game developers and that alecaframe will not get me banned.

    From https://support.warframe.com/hc/en-us/articles/360030014351-Third-Party-Software-and-You

We would like to make it clear that our involvement with Overwolf is simply that we’ve had conversations to ensure that Warframe’s EULA and ToS are not being breached in any way.

Overwolf is somehow getting your inventory from the game. Speculation is it’s reading memory or network traffic. That is, in my interpretation, a violation of the TOS, but they were somehow getting away with it (or DE were being lenient, because it’s not really that big of a deal to get your inventory out of the game).

Since you’ve been banned twice so far, I’d recommend you stop using it. I’m surprised you got your ban lifted the second time.

Well, yeah, they have their boilerplate. The problem is, public statements from DE and Overwolf are at odds with each other.

DE claims that they only talked with Overwolf to ensure they don’t do anything that breaks the EULA. What does the EULA say?

        h. use any unauthorized third-party software that intercepts, “mines”, or otherwise collects information from, within or through the Software or Service, including without limitation, any software that reads areas of RAM used by the Software to store information about a character, in-game items or the Software environment; provided, however, that Digital Extremes may, in its sole discretion, allow the use of specified third party user interfaces;

Overwolf is clearly collecting information from the game to get your inventory, and DE did not say they gave Overwolf special permission to do it.

What might be happening here is that Overwolf started triggering their automated detection, but they don’t want to ban everyone using Alecaframe (because that would be a lot of players), so that might be why they’re so willing to unban you.

ahh, i see anyways, ill just go along without using alecaframe til DE actually confirms its okay and not punished

That’s very frustrating. Alecaframe has made my life so much easier over the last two months. This is what the companion app should be, but you can’t even be logged in to it to search your inventory. : p

Unfortunately, they will never come out and say that. Overwolf, at its core, is accessing their data. They explicitly state the following in their third party software thread:

“If you use external software in conjunction with Warframe, then you do so at your own risk. (…) This leads into why a list is not provided. If you have a piece of Macro software that is normally tolerated, but is then discovered to be the source of a future exploit, that software may get added to a ban list, and you could potentially be caught up in the automatic drag net. As stated above, there is no easy way to prove that the software used is benign.”

They don’t give us an official “okay-list”, because every app can change functionality with an update to the point where it would be against ToS.

    hey, AlecaFrame dev here.

As far as I know, nothing has changed from their update to the 3rd party policy they made last summer (https://support.warframe.com/hc/en-us/articles/360030014351-Third-Party-Software-and-You) It is definitively not a widespread issue, and no one I have heard of (out of >150K users) has been permanently banned. To me, it seems like their automated system is for some reason being too aggressive with some players, and they just prefer to manually unban people instead of making it less aggressive. Let me try to contact DE directly and see if we can get a more direct stance now that AF has grown quite a bit

Update: I asked DE for public clarification, and this is their response: https://i.imgur.com/07aCLNI.png

Even though they won’t publicly commit to saying “yes” to any third-party app, they have confirmed in their third-party policy (and again in this email) that Overwolf, which is the “risky part” (gathering the inventory data), is allowed and doesn’t break the ToS.

As they also state, any suspensions (which are extremely rare, <10 reports in over 170,000 users) that their automated system performs are not a reflection of the usage of AlecaFrame [source]. These, which again, are extremely uncommon, are probably a result of their automated system flagging Overwolf/the overlay as suspicious. As these suspensions are just a byproduct of a false positive and not a violation of their ToS, they are usually promptly removed by their support team.

During the year and a half that AlecaFrame has been out, I am proud to say that there have been 0 cases of any player getting permanently banned (with no recourse) due to AlecaFrame.

It is my first priority, and also the one for all the people involved in this (Overwolf) to make sure AlecaFrame is, and will always be, fully compliant with their ToS.

Did customer support tell you that alecaframe was the reason you got banned, or are you inferring that fact? Just asking because there are many ways to get banned in Warframe that have nothing to do with the software on your system.

The phrasing of ‘must now ask’ implies that this is a new standard and not a one off thing. RIP Alecaframe I suppose
