Be me: Kol-Jha, Koldemar Sorcerer/Dragon-Desciple

Be not me: DM; Alex, Human Fighter/Warpriest; Velius, Sylph Druid; Caw, Tengu Rogue; Silit, Kobold Rogue;

Picking up with the death of Man Berg making our way back to the farm

We return to our campsite and rest… nothing messes with us having just fought a large devil.

We continue out trek back to the farm with Velius leading the way following our trail backwards.

As we travel we try to decypher a magic item we’ve found, a Belt…

None of us can figure it out. Alex equips the belt to see what it might do… no apparent effect.

Is it cursed? Can they take it off?

They can, it’s not cursed. They put it back on in case it requires attunement.

We travel onward until the sun begins to set and it’s time to make camp again.

Velius turns themself into a moss monster for the night to be less conspicuous.

Kol takes first watch… everything goes well and then Kol wakes Alex for their watch.

Alex crits their Perception and nearly crit-fails their luck roll…

Flap, flap, flap… a winged creature is approaching

Alex wakes the casters to tell them that…

A large raven is approaching. Alex tries to shoe it off.

The bird tilts it’s head and approaches closer to our whip-master.

Alex cracks their whip to try and scare the bird off… it doesn’t work

With that the bird retreats into the darkness.

Awkward pause

DM calls for Perception

Alex rolls 26… and nothing.

DM calls for another Perception

Alex rolls 28… and still nothing.

Then the bird calls from behind her… revealing Caw the Tengu Rogue.

The ensuing commotion wakes everyone.

Caw says he’ll do that again as Kol is getting up.

“You will do no such thing.” - Kol states glaring at Caw.

Caw tells us that we’re not good at hiding, that Velius is better at it gesturing to the Moss Monster.

“Have you considered that we’re not trying to hide?” - Kol pointedly asks.

Caw draws a metal spike from their cloak and hands it to Alex

Kol readies an action to use his Breath Weapon if this turns into something hostile.

Nothing happens…

Alex asks what this was suppose to accomplish.

Velius seconds the inquiry asking if this is to set up a tent… and who this Tengu is.

Caw comments that it’s to hide them.

From Kol’s perspective a large tent appears around the rest of the party.

Kol touches the fabric wall and passes the save to disbelieve the illusion.

He steps through and Caw asks what it looks like.

Kol replies that it looks like a tent, more conspicuous than what we were doing.

Caw withdraws the spike and replaces it as Alex returns the mallet to them.

They step out of the illusion and instruct Alex to do so as well to show them the illusion is now a hillock obscuring the camp.

Alex asks Caw what he’s doing out here. Caw replies that they were curious about what a group of people out in the wilderness were doing not-hiding.

With that Alex apologized for waking everyone and suggests we go back to sleep.

Caw shakes his head admonishing Alex for being too trusting, telling them that it’s another weakness.

The rest of the watch goes uneventfully leading into Velius’ watch.

Day breaks.

Can we reach the farm this session?

Alex asks Caw their name and they caw like a crow…

Alex replies that it’s a nice name.

“I’m not sure I can pronounce that, can we call you Caw?” - Kol asks.

Caw asks where we’re going.

Kol replies that we’re going to a farm nearby.

Caw asks if it fits a short description and we confirm.

They tell us that it’s less than a days walk away.

We pack up and almost forget to bring the spike with us. Velius notices and grabs it.

Velius turns it over in their hands trying to figure it out.

Caw approaches and asks if they’re curious about the spike.

Velius confirms they are and asks what it is.

Caw explains that it is a Spike of Safe Passage.

We reach the farm without further harassment.

Kol leads the way approaching the front door and knocking…

Daddy Dearest opens the door and inquires why we have a few strangers and not the full group he saw previously… and where is his son.

Kol explains that the thing sabotaging his wards was a problem and asks if they may come in to explain.

Daddy Dearest asks again much more threateningly about where his Son is.

Kol solemnly removes the corps from the bag explaining the creature that’s broken his wards is responsible.

Daddy Dearest takes the corpse as Mommy Dearest weeps. Daddy takes the corpse upstairs and after a short time cold begins to emanate from upstairs

Daddy comes back down and states that he will be holding us responsible.

Kol states that he understands and is willing to pay for a caster to return his son to life.

Daddy Dearest accepts that proposition and says that he will be able to travel tomorrow.

Kol asks if they would be willing to ask the Cleric to prepare additional castings as we have dead of our own (that we’d be paying for the revives for).

He agrees and we take Silit’s corpse to the cold room, Levi’s bedroom converted into a freezer.

DD then asks Kol to send in Velius as he heads out to set up camp with the party.

Velius goes in and is interrogated about the circumstances of Levi’s death and as to why the woman wasn’t brought back.

Velius explains that Levi’s death couldn’t be helped as it was an immediate and unpredictable stroke of fate and that the body of Vira was incinerated in a subsequent fight.

DD steps out after the interrogation to apologize to Kol and tell them to prepare to depart.

Kol says that it’s understandable and that they will be ready.

We camp outside since the family doesn’t exactly want us in view given what’s happened.

First watch… and something dangerous is already happening.

As we’re camping in the dark of the night it suddenly becomes bright outside… brighter than high noon as an angelic figure appears before us to give a warning to Velius before vanishing through a portal.

Well ominous warnings from powerful extraplanar forces aside the night passes uneventfully and it’s time to make our way to the city with Daddy Dearest.

Velius isn’t sleeping at least for the rest of the week after that and covers the rest of the shifts.

Second shift Velius hears the ruckus of beating wings as many many creatures fly overhead…

Velius wakes Kol

“What… what… what? Did you piss off another angel?” - Kol

Velius points out the creatures.

Kol looks up “They’re bats. They’re migrating. It’s bad migration season… aren’t you the druid?”

Kol goes back to bed.

Velius takes third watch and can’t shake the feeling they’re being watched…

It can safely be assumed the Angel is watching her.

Right at the crack of dawn Daddy Dearest is up at the crack of dawn

They tell us to grab Silit’s body and they prepare a ritual to teleport us to a city.

Kol begins taking Cold damage holding the deeply cold Silit during the ritual.

During the ritual Velius asks if Kol is OK, he wards her off until the ritual completes.

He then passes off the Silit-sickle once they’re teleported and tries to warm himself up.

Velius is stung by the cold… she has to pass her back quickly but casts Protection From Energy on him as he holds our frozen Rogue.

Meanwhile DD is already halfway down the block toward the clerics

We quickly make our way behind him in the unfamiliar city.

Daddy Dearest is seen immediately while the party must wait for a time before a priest sees us.

They inquire as to our purpose here.

Kol explains that they want their friend returned to life erroneously stating an unnecessarily strong magic.

The priest explains that a lesser magic will suffice when it’s explained she’s only been dead a few days.

With that cleared up Kol asks if they would be able to remove the negative levels associated with the magic as well and the priest confirms.

They’re lead into a room with an alter and told a higher priest will be arriving to handle the transaction and casting.

The higher priest presents Kol with a scroll and reading it the scroll is a bill for the services.

Kol acknowledges and with confirmation that it was to be paid in advance he sorts 8.5k gold into a donation box and with that the priest begins the casting…

The first spell returning our Kobold Rogue to life, and two subsequent spells removing lasting ill-effect from her.

Now that we’re in a city we decide to sort our collected items and price check them. We split up the items and/or their value and ready ourselves to make our way back to that infernal dungeon.
